Rooted in the tradition and elegance of Chinese medicine, Prefer Health provides compassionate and inclusive health and aesthetic care for people looking to improve their physical and emotional health from the inside-out.

Cosmetic acupuncture

There is a way to address the signs of aging naturally, in a way that embraces your natural beauty and minimizes the risk of side-effects like unnatural facial appearance and expressions. Aesthetic acupuncture treatment is the way to go when you want to look younger and more refreshed, but still look like YOU.

Acupuncture treatment

Feeling like your body is trying to tell you something? Acupuncture treatments are an opportunity to give your mind and body some time to catch up, and then let the whole of you rest and heal. Using acupuncture, and sometimes other modalities such as cupping, gua sha, and body work, I work to address the root causes, not just the symptoms. Recommendations for dietary changes, herbs and supplements, or other home care protocols are also often recommended during your treatment, so that you can keep the healing happening at home.

Virtual consultations

Chinese medicine draws from an expansive wisdom, with roots extending back through thousands of years of close attention to the interrelatedness of the human body and the greater natural world. While it gets most of the attention, acupuncture and the physical modalities are only one aspect of the medicine. A virtual consult is a great way to get personalized advice and recommendations specific to any health or aesthetic concerns.

Mental and emotional health

Stress, depression, anxiety, ADHD… Whatever it is that colors the way you are thinking and feeling, I am here to hold space for you. Acupuncture has profoundly beneficial effects on the mind and spirit, and, when appropriate, herbs and supplementation are often incorporated into treatment plans as well. Studies have shown that acupuncture treatment has the potential to be on par with talk therapies in its benefit for mental health, and if you are someone who gets the idea of “feeling with your body”, this might be a path you.

Musculoskeletal injury and pain.

This is usually what gets acupuncture on the map in the west, and generally what health insurance companies will provide insurance coverage for. Acupuncture, gua sha, cupping, and massage may all be used to get you back to feeling well. I’m personally a big fan of aggressive trigger point therapy for athletes and people with robust constitutions, but if fibromyalgia, M.S., or overuse are the root, you’ll generally find me using a much gentler touch and fewer needles.

Aesthetics and skincare

Using acupuncture, facial gua sha, cupping, and massage, we can affect true change in the skin. The beauty of Chinese medicine’s approach to skincare is that we approach it from a state of holistic wellness, and through the magic of acupuncture needles and herbs, we literally start affecting change from the inside out. Of course topicals are also a critical part of skincare, and we proudly carry Environ skincare, as well as a variety of other natural skincare products.

Men’s health.

Stress, body pain, high blood pressure, sexual and reproductive health...I just think this one deserves a little shout out. I’ve noticed that for whatever reason, the biggest surge in alternative care I’ve seen is targeted towards women. I want men to know they belong here. Whether it’s physical, mental-emotional health, or aesthetic care, Chinese medicine can help, and you deserve to take care of your health too.

Scar therapy

When scars create restriction and discomfort, acupuncture increases the circulation of blood and qi to promote tissue remodeling. Because it also affects the energetic and emotional systems of the body, many people experience emotional release or increase in energy in conjunction with treatment. Scar therapy is beneficial for all types of scars, including traumatic injury, previous self-harm, and surgeries including laparoscopic procedures, mastectomy, c-section, joint replacement, and gender-confirmation.

Neuromuscular facial conditions.

TMJ, Bell’s palsy, and facial paralysis are just some of the neuromuscular facial conditions that can be improved with acupuncture.  Over time, by working with the energetics of the meridians, as well as creating local physiological effects on very specific motor points on the face, pain can be reduced and function restored. Home care and maintenance is so important for making progress, so coaching on self-care is often approached as well.
